Yoga & Benefits
The Yoga
An invigorating, challenging, beginner's practice
Bikram Yoga is a series of 26 traditional Hatha Yoga postures, practised in a heated room. It is a beginner's series but is progressively challenging for experienced students. Beginners and experienced students practise together. It doesn't matter how flexible you are, what size you are, how old you are - do your yoga to the best of your ability on any day you choose to turn up and try.
All classes at the studio follow the same format and beginners are welcome at any class. The class lasts 90min, starting with a breathing exercise and standing series, followed by a floor series and final breathing exercise. Each posture is practised twice.
The postures are not complicated. There are no head-stands or arm-balancing postures. Again, it is a beginner's practice so there are no particularly intimidating postures. That doesn't mean the postures are easy but it does mean that you will be able do each posture to some degree.

The Benefits
Not just the superficial development of muscle but an holistic approach to bringing health, vitality and well-being into your life
Most exercise focuses on working specific muscles with the aim of increasing strength and/or giving your body a cardiovascular workout. Yoga is different - it is not just about the superficial development of muscle, your entire body benefits from the activity of practising yoga.
The series is designed to work through the entire body in a way that promotes flexibility, strength, good alignment, stamina, concentration, determination and overall well-being.
This is preventative medicine, supporting your digestive, respiratory, circulatory, endocrine, lymphatic, nervous, immune and skeletal muscular systems.
Bikram students have reported improvements in the quality of their lives ranging from breathing more freely to dealing better with stressful jobs.
With regular practice, you will:
- Tone and strengthen
- Improve flexibility, alignment and posture
- Support weight loss
- Support healing from injury
- Feel more energised
- Calm the mind, relieve anxiety and reduce stress
“Yoga is for everybody. There is no such thing as old and infirm. I will tell you the same thing even if you are 101.”
